The Qualifying Student Health Insurance Program (QSHIP)
Massachusetts State law requires students enrolled in 75% of full-time curriculum in any Massachusetts institution of higher education to participate in a school-sponsored qualifying student health insurance program (“QSHIP”) or an alternate health plan with comparable coverage.
The Student Health Insurance Plan offered through University Health Services
meets QSHIP requirements. Students who are at least 75% of full time are
automatically billed for the Student Health Insurance Plan. All other students
are eligible to purchase the insurance and can do so by contacting the Bursar’s
Office and having the charge added to their bill.
Students required to purchase may opt out of the Student Health Insurance Plan
by completing a waiver indicating that they have comparable coverage under
another plan. When a waiver of the Student Health Insurance Plan is submitted to
the Bursar's Office, policy information will be verified to insure that it
provides comparable coverage.
