Breaking The Silence Through Storytelling

"It takes two people to speak the truth: One to speak and another to
hear."
– Henry David Thoreau

Take Back the Night's supporters have always understood the power of speaking out. Rape, sexual assault, sexual abuse and  domestic violence are often labeled "crimes of silence" because of low reporting rates and social discomfort with their public discussion.

Survivors of sexual assault, rape, domestic violence, and sexual abuse are invited to break the silence by submitting your stories for display on the story wall. The story wall is a crucial part of the TAKE BACK THE NIGHT event, taking place at UMass Boston on April 22 and 23, 2008.Your strength and courage will help other survivors know that they are not alone, and that we will not tolerate these crimes or let them go silently into the night. Together, our stories will help our world work toward eliminating sexual violence.

You may send your submission to us anonymously, through this secure website. Or, you may submit your story in one of the Take Back the Night Story Wall Boxes, found in the Women's Center (Campus Center, 3rd floor, 617-287-7986)

Also, we would like to share your story at the Take Back the Night rally, which will be taking place on April 23 at 5:00pm. Please indicate with your story if you mind if we share your story anonymously, if you’d like to come to rally to share your own story, or if you prefer that we not share your story at the rally.

Please Note:

All submissions are screened prior to posting.

Your submission must be 500 words or less.
